Community Action Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) Program Begins

Jan 31, 2019

Community Action Akron Summit Earned Income Tax Program is offering tax preparation and filing at no cost to eligible residents beginning January 29, 2019. As many as one in five eligible workers will miss out on claiming the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) each year, according to estimates by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). As a result, these taxpayers could end up missing out on this tax credit worth as much as $6,431 on their federal income tax returns. Fortunately, eligible working families here in Summit County are able to access tax preparation assistance at no cost to them. Community Action Akron Summit will prepare your tax return at no cost to you. Trained and IRS-certified volunteers will help determine EITC eligibility, prepare your returns and ensure taxpayers receive the full amount for which they qualify. This year, the EITC income thresholds range from $15,270 to $54,884 depending on filing status and number of dependents:

•Families with three or more qualifying children who earned less than $49,194 in 2018 (or less than$54,884 for married filing jointly) are eligible for a credit of up to $6,431.

•Families with two qualifying children who earned less than $45,802 in 2018 (or less than $51,492 formarried filing jointly) are eligible for a credit of up to $5,716.

•Families with one qualifying child who earned less than $40,320 in 2018 (or less than $46,010 formarried filing jointly) are eligible for a credit of up to $3,461.
