Job Summary 

Under direction, the Mental Health Itinerant (MHI) travels between multiple Head Start (HS) and Early Head Start (EHS) sites to provide intervention services that support and promote social-emotional development while addressing mental health concerns in early childhood settings. Services are delivered through classroom support and consultation, child assessment and intervention, crisis response, and collaboration with staff and families, while ensuring proper documentation and compliance with program standards. Responsibilities include: Observe children (ages 6 weeks to age 5) in classroom settings to identify social-emotional and behavioral concerns; Collaborate with teachers to develop and implement strategies for managing challenging behaviors; Model positive interaction techniques and effective classroom management approaches; Support inclusive learning environments that meet the diverse needs of all children; Respond to urgent behavioral or emotional crises, including de-escalation and follow-up planning; Provide families with parenting strategies, resources, and guidance; Maintain accurate and timely case notes, documentation, and reports; Ensure services align with Head Start Program Performance Standards; Monitor, track, and report outcomes and progress; Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements 

Completion of four (4) year college degree in Psychology, Early Childhood Education, Special Education or equivalent combinations of training and/or experience and minimum of two (2) years of experience in a mental health setting providing prevention services and/or mental health intervention to young children and families. Should be familiar with the social, emotional, behavioral, developmental and academic milestones of children birth through kindergarten. Proficient computer/word processing aptitude (i.e. ability to work in MS Applications such as MS Word, Excel, Outlook); Valid State of Ohio Driver’s License and transportation (travel may be required for observation, consultation and training); successful completion of post physical examination, fingerprint and background checks conducted (FBI, BCI&I, Sex Offender Registry and Child Abuse and Neglect).

Pay Rate

$47,860.80 Annualized; $23.01 per hour; (Pay Level 25)
