Oct 28, 2022

Akron Ohio — The 2023 Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) Winter Crisis Program (WCP) starts Nov. 1, 2022, and runs until March 31, 2023.

The Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) helps residents at or below 175% of the federal poverty guidelines pay their heating bills.

Income-eligible households that have been disconnected (or have a pending disconnection notice), need to establish new service, need to pay to transfer service, have a PIPP default with disconnection notice, or have 25% (or less) of bulk fuel supply remaining, may receive assistance through the program.

The WCP provides a benefit to assist with the main and/or secondary heating source (electric), as well as with fuel. The maximum benefit amounts for the 2023 program are: $175 for clients of regulated utilities, $750 for clients of unregulated utilities (municipal utilities or cooperatives), $900 for clients with bulk fuel and $550 for clients with wood and coal.
