Public Input Sought for Community Services Block Grant Application

AKRON, Ohio – Community Action Akron Summit is seeking public input on its 2024-2025 Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) application. To meet the unique needs of our area, the organization is committed to fostering transparency and inclusivity in its decision-making process.
 
Through the Ohio Department of Development Office of Community Assistance, this funding opportunity supports various projects and initiatives that help alleviate poverty conditions and causes in Akron and Summit County. CSBG funding of $2,546,492 will enable Community Action to continue providing essential services that help individuals and families achieve better lives. The application will be submitted on November 1.
 
The CSBG application draft will be available for review from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, at Community Action’s office at 55 E. Mill St., Akron.

Funding from the CSBG supports projects that:

  • Reduce poverty in communities
  • Address the needs of those with low incomes, including people experiencing homelessness, migrants, and the elderly
  • Provide services and activities addressing employment, education, better use of available income, housing, nutrition, emergency services and health

CSBG funding supports states and community action agencies’ efforts toward increased self-sufficiency, improved living conditions, ownership of and pride in their communities and building strong families and support systems.
 
CSBG services include:

  • Foster Grandparents Program
  • Neighborhood Development
  • Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program
  • Pathways Community HUB
  • CHORE
  • Child Development Associate

Community Action Akron Summit is a private non-profit corporation operating various programs that assist low-income Summit County residents to become self-sufficient. These programs include Head Start, Early Head Start, Foster Grandparent Program, Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP), Pathways HUB Community Action, and the Akron Summit Earned Income Tax Credit Program.
