Winter Crisis Program begins November 1, 2020

Oct 29, 2020

The Winter Crisis Program (WCP) assists low-income households in danger of having their gas or electric utilities disconnected, have already had service disconnected, or those with bulk fuel tanks that are 25% or less of its fuel supply. The HEAP winter crisis program runs from Nov. 1, 2020 until March 31, 2021. CA serves income-eligible households in Summit who are at or below 175% of the federal poverty guideline.

Due to the Coronavirus health crisis, Community Action Akron Summit will continue to complete scheduled appointments over the phone (no face-to face interviews) for the Winter Crisis Program (HEAP).  Customers can call the HEAP line at 330-436-0261.  Customers that have a scheduled appointment must be available to complete the application process over the phone during their scheduled appointment time.

Throughout the year, Community Action Akron Summit also enrolls and/or re-verifies gas and electric utility customers in the Percentage of Income Payment Plan (PIPP).

PIPP is an extended payment arrangement that requires regulated gas and electric companies to accept payments based on a percentage of the monthly household income.

For your convenience, you may complete the Energy Assistance Application on-line by following through the online portal below.
